Created in 1984, the Professional Photographers Association of Spain (AFPE) is currently the only statewide association that brings together professional photographers in a common defence of their interests.
The second time we tackled the AFPE yearbook marked a shift in the LUX Awards’ yearbook series. We were fortunate to work very closely with the entire team to create a piece that meant a turning point in the collection.
Held yearly since its creation in 1993, the LUX Awards have become the benchmark for professional photography in Spain. Over 24,000 photos by 3,000 photographers have been submitted over the years, resulting in 260 photographers awarded with a LUX Gold, Silver or Bronze trophy. Keeping its square format, the same as in previous years and the standard for portrait-based publications, the winners occupy the place they deserve on the cover. This first glance is a statement of intent. The cover shows the winners so that photography takes centre stage throughout the rest of the book.
